First Single Vaccine Clinic to be Registered with the Care Quality Commission

We are calling on the government and the department of health to reintroduce the right of parents to have their children vaccinated with a programme of single vaccines as an alternative to the combined MMR vaccine.

We are doing this for the following reasons:

1. Desumo was set up initially to support parents who wished to be informed about the MMR issue and who wished to pursue alternative options to the combined MMR. This petition is simply an extension of the initial momentum that brought Desumo into existence. Desumo is Latin for "I choose" and we believe that parents have a right to make an informed choice over the wellbeing of their children.

2. The concern expressed by parents about the combined MMR vaccine needs serious consideration by the Government and public health officials. The medical debate over the MMR vaccine is not yet conclusive and parents concern is being expressed through lower than desired vaccination rates. As targets are not being met through the MMR vaccination programme we believe a single vaccination programme will supplement this and reduce the risk of disease in the UK population.

3. Many parents do not have the financial means to pursue a single vaccine option privately. Although we provide support for parents undergoing hardship we are not aware of other single vaccine providers who do likewise. To provide single vaccines, freely available alongside the MMR would ensure the coverage is available in a universal rather than economically discriminatory way.

At the same time we are also petitioning the Government to remove from public use all vaccines which contain the mercury based preservative "thiomersal".

We are doing this for the following reasons:

1. Two years ago in the USA and Europe, medicine regulators recommended that the use of thiomersal in vaccines should be phased out within the shortest possible time frame. We believe that the Department of Health has had adequate time with which to do this.

2. The Department of Health has instructed doctors to use up current stocks of the mercury based vaccine. We believe the possible cost to families whose children may be affected by this "cost saving measure" far outweigh any saving to the budget of the Department of Health and as such it would be far more responsible to replace these with mercury/thiomersal free vaccines with immediate effect.
